"Everything we are facing is a competition. How are you going to help us win today?" - Jon Daniels
Daily Commentary on the Dallas Sports Scene - By Bob Sturm - Sportsradio 1310, The Ticket
Vince Young is should get the heisman this year if he keeps performing the way he is right now. Without him we wouldnt be anywere....
Nothing wrong with Musberger. Except that he's blind and retarded. How about the fat RB refusing to get the TD at the end? That could have easily killed their season.
Listen to the radio play by play for a great homer call: Texas fumble recovery with 2 minutes or so to go. Extreme shake voice combined with Peter Brady syndrome.
With all respects to Happy Gilmore, Uh oh... Vince learned how to throw. I never thought the problem witht the Texas passing game would be receivers dropping perfectly thrown balls.
The most important thing about the game was hearing ALL GAME about how AMAZING the Linebackers are for Ohio State. They could have at least given some credit to Ohio State's kicker for all those field goals.
This is UT's year... USC will be the only competition.OU will be nothing but a speedbump. OU couldn't even beat TCU at home and then struggled mightily to beat Tulsa at home.
It was all about the Texas D! They kept our butts alive when the offense and special teams made mistakes. Holding OSU to field goals was impressive. Other than special team kick coverage this is a complete team. Rumming game, passing game, and D. On a side note. Notre Dame looks like they are for real. I am really looking forward to that Notre Dame v. USC game in a few weeks. Texas vs. Notre Dame in the title game? HOT SPORTS OPINIONS!Longhorn P1
Definitely should be some homer calls coming out of that one.Good game.
Oh, and Musberger sucks balls. Longhorn P1
Was only able to view the 2nd Half live, but I saw enough to merit that a classic ballgame.I thought OSU was going to suffocate the Longhorns to death. That 3rd Qtr. is Exhibit A in how Field Position can affect the outcome of a ballgame. Somehow, someway the Texas D held their own despite OSU starting at midfield at practically EVERY possession they had.I got a little sick of all the ZOMGWTFBBQ going on in the booth about the OSU Linebacking core. MAJOR J.O.S. by Arute and Musburger on those guys... (they were dominant for almost all the game, I will admit)And don't get me started on how horrible Musberger is. I pray every night for a Double Knockout in a Chris Berman/Brent Musberger fight to the death...
didn't watch the game because i was busy beating the tlu bulldogs, but i thought we were supposed to get a full blog today. gotta get to my tivo and see the game.
I'm not sure what you (or the refs) were looking at, but Melton scored on that play at the goal line in the final minute. Thankfully it didn't effect the outcome of the game though as Smith was sacked for a safety on the next play. That game was an epic and definitely lived up to all of the hype. Wow, UT has come a long way since the Chris Simms days, Vince Young is a MAN. And to answer George Seifert's question from yesteryear....They're Brass...
As for OU, maybe they really are THAT bad considering that TCU got whipped by freaking SMU tonight. Had OU been playing anyone remotely decent today they would now be 0-2. Their QB situation is an absolute abortion at this point, and they half killed Peterson in eeking out a win over lowly Tulsa of all people. They will get smoked by UCLA next Saturday in Pasadena...
I want to clarify a misconception about Melton's non-touchdown in the closing minutes. It was, without any doubt whatsoever, a touchdown. In fact, even if he did not get inside the pylon it was a touchdown. Why? In college football the goal line is a line that extends out of bounds infinitely in both directions. If a player leaps at the pylon, and crosses the plane of the goal line even if he crosses that plane out of bounds he has scored--so long as his body hasn't hit the ground. There's some debate as to whether he got inside the pylon--but there is no question at all that he broke the "extended" goal line plane before any part of his body touched the ground. The officials got the call wrong, and the booth monkeys didn't know the rule.
The Eyes of Texas are upon you,All the live long day.The Eyes of Texas are upon you,You can not get away.Do not think you can escape themAt night or early in the morn-The Eyes of Texas are upon you'Till Gabriel blows his horn.
i'm so krunk right now, i thought i couldn't get more krunk after we just whipped the bulldogs of texas lutheran, and learning that texas beat ohio state. but i am so krunk, i'm still pumped up, and i want to fight sombody who disagree's with me. I love college footballstay hard
the best second week of college football ever? or at least as long as most of us can remember if it is not. i loved it because of the following: ND beats MichISU beats IowaUT beats OSU Tech beats whomeverTCU loses, especially to SM f-ing ULSU coming back against ASUGranted I am a Tech fan and biased to the Big 12, but I love it when the ridiculously overrated big 11's big 3 lose across the board. plus, this pretty much busted the corso/herbstreit theory of USC v OSU in the rose bowl.Free Dan MacDowell will be on display at the UT/Tech game bc that will probably be #2 vs. #12-15. Two undefeateds for the shootout of the year. See you in Austin.
The defense deserves as much credit as Young. Yes Young made some great plays to win it, but he also made a couple horrible plays that put OSU in position to score some points that they wouldn't have gotten otherwise because OSU couldn't move the ball against the Horns defense. If the defense gives up 14 or 10 instead of 6 off of Vince's two picks, his late-game heroics don't matter. Also, Musberger is way more of a beating than Berman. I don't think Jamaal Charles did anything last night without Brent pointing out that he was a freshman.
What's this about Charles being a freshmen? I don't recall hearing that 20times last night. That UT defense saved the offenses butts, the coaches need to really stress keeping the damn ball in practice. Young sometimes has a habit of trying to force a great play, which is a trait of most great players, he just needs to learn when to eat the sack. And Selvin Young, protect the ball! geez.I wouldn't be surprised if the longhorns start Charles the rest of the year. P.S that WAS a TD at the end of the game, he hit the pylon while his body was inbounds.
I was waiting for Texas to lose to see who's fault it was that they lost. And even though they won, thanks to Matt in Dallas, I see who's fault it would have been: the refs and the guys in the booth because of course your average Texas fan knows more about the rules than the FREAKIN' REFS!!!That's why I don't like Texas. When the win, it's "Hey, WE won!" But when they lose it's always someone else's fault. The refs or the other team cheated or the other team's fans cheering too loud. Maybe the sun was too bright and blinded them. It's always something.Props to Texas for winning, but they will stumble this year. Good thing it won't be their fault.
Is not about fans knowing more than the refs, its just questioning some head scratching decisions. They review the obvious Texas TD catch but can't review Melton's TD? That could have cost them the game if Tressel didn't have a brain fart and went with the QB who put up 19 of the 22 points on the board for OS.Whatever. If Texas would have lost, the blame would have feel on Mack Brown's head for not getting these guys up for the game. The fumble and Young's first INT reeked of Texas meltdown.
Wow, what a fuggin game! I must first state that I am an OU alumn and season ticket holder, and I found myself rooting for Texas at the end of the game strangely enough.I think I can say without a doubt that Texas will exercise over 5 years of frustation on Oklahoma come the second week of October. When you think about it, Texas is the ONLY shining star of the Big XII. The North can be completely written off, and you have a stugguuuullling OU team and another mediocre A&M team. Looking at the Texas schedule, it is perfectly set for them to run the table.Mack got part of the monkey off his back by winning the big game last night, and will get the rest of it gone when he demolishes Oklahoma. This could be Texas's year as much as it pains me to say it.By the way, OU is holding open tryouts for QB in case anyone wants to try out. Just show up at campus on Monday and I am sure they will work you out. Good luck!As always, F Dan!
What a win for UT last night..Let me first say that I am a die-hard Sooner fan. Having said that...some observations about the Horns:-For the second time in a row on a national stage, they get it done.- It looks like that, even though still a strange delivery, Vince Young can throw enough to be dangerous.- As the great Barry Switzer says, "players win the game, not coaches." Texas has better players now across the board.- Texas will beat OU this year and it could be ugly.Having said that too...Could OU beat TX? You never know in that game, but right now OU has a depleted secondary, O-line, and quarterback. I don't see it happening... It would be all mental if TX comes to the Cotton Bowl and fails again.Could OU lose 5 games this year?very possible.Oh boy!!
Musberger is a complete asswhip. At one point, during the first half, he was talking about how Ohio State was in the middle of a "brilliant" drive. They had only "driven" the ball three yards since they got the ball.As for Chris Berman...if I see that clip of him catching a pass from Doug Williams ever again, I'm throwing a rock through my HDTV. I'd rather listen to the radio that watch that fat ass.Berman and Brent must get off the air right now. This is 2005, not 1986.
I'd rather get a lap dance from Dick Vitale than hear Musberger call a game. I put the game on mute and tuned to the radio play-by-play. Craig Way & Moreland make Musberger & Danielson sound like dog sh*t.
ugh, craig way, its hard for me to listen to ut games while i know he's got a mouth full, two hands full, and a butt full of texas players coc*s. i'll take musbergerberman any day compared to that homer.
I feel happy for Texas fans right now, but also somewhat bad for them because they're on such a high...and then Texas will find a way to fail in the end somehow - like they did against the Buffaloes a few years back - a Buffaloes team that got mauled by Oregon in the bowl game. Maybe against the Aggies late in the year. Maybe against a hideous North team in the Big 12 championship. Hell, maybe even against OU - again - just maybe.I'm happy for the much maligned Vince Young - especially since he was the hero with his arm. His passing is much improved, although I still wouldn't call him a good passer. If given time and space he can kinda sling it pretty accurately. Any pressure though, I see his ability as almost nil again throwing the ball. I don't see him stepping up in the face of a rush and delivering an accurate pass. But he's much improved. The Big 10 had a bad week. So did the WAC. I still don't see anyone beating USC. They're like a pro team playing college teams.
